The fard (obligatory) prayer has a minimum required to be valid: shuroot (conditions) arkaan (pillars) wajibaat (requirements) It also has things that are sunnah (recommended), and things that are makrooh (disliked). Then there are things that are generally permissible to be done in the salah.
Answer Praise be to Allah. The Standing Committee for Issuing Fatwas was asked the following question: What is the number of men required for Jumu`ah prayer to be valid? Some people say that it is not valid with less than forty men, and if there is one less than that, they should pray Zuhr. They replied:
فَاقْرَءُوا مَا تَيَسَّرَ مِنْهُ So recite what is easy from it [Quran] [Surat Al-Muzzammil:20] Imam Abu Hanifah said this is an evidence that you can read the least amount of it, i.e, one ayah.
